I’d like to talk about the birthday gift I gave to my mom 2 years ago.
Usually I’m not the kind of person who would send parents gifts, especially during those teenage years when I was so rebellious that I didn’t even talk to my parents. But somehow I suddenly realized how awful I was, it was like I grew up overnight. I told myself that I should have treated my parents nicer, and I needed to do something to make up for it. So I decided to start off by giving my mom a perfect birthday gift.
Since it was a gift for my mom, I shouldn’t ask my mom for any money. And I couldn’t get a part-time job, ‘cause no one would hire a girl at my age. So all I could do is to save my pocket money little by little. At first, I tried to skip lunch or dinner, but it turned out it was impossible ‘cause I always had a good appetite. And then I changed my means of transportation to school. Usually I would take the taxi, but those days I just took the bus to save money, even in horrible weather.
At first, I had my eye on a necklace, it was gorgeous with a big shinning pendant, but I saved for a month and what I got was far from enough. So I just had to think of something else to give my mom a big surprise. I racked my brains trying to come up with a perfect idea, and finally, I got it.
I gave her 24 roses, 18 of which were red and the rest were white. Because my mom gave birth to me when she was only 24, and the 18 red roses means that in my eyes, she would be forever 18 years old, forever young and beautiful, you know.
I can still remember her facial expression when she got the flowers. It was actually the first thing I’ve ever got her. She even moved to tears.
